Glossary

  • A highlight describes hair that is lighter than your natural color. Highlights can appear naturally from the sun or can be artificially created using artist techniques like foiling or hand-painting (balayage).

  • Lived-in color is way of blending highlights with your natural root color to allow your color to grow out naturally

  • Balayage is a French word that means “to sweep.” In this hair color technique, highlights are hand-painted or “swept” on the surface of a section. Painting gives the effect of a soft gradual grow out.
